These blanks undergo an initial turning operation, during which the outer contour of the bushings begins to take shape.   After contouring, they are prepared for the graphite liner. The first step is CNC drilling of the Oilless Bushings blanks. Performed on a CNC machine, this step is critical as the evenly spaced graphite inlay holes will ensure the even distribution of the required solid lubricant.   Once the graphite inlay holes have been completed, the graphite is inserted into the holes, but the graphite requires a curing period. This curing period ensures that the graphite is firmly bonded into the brass bushings. Once cured, the Oilless Bushings are precision turned to their final assembly dimensions. This step is critical to achieving the accuracy required for seamless assembly with the machine spindle.   Typically, Oilless Bushings are designed with internal chip evacuation grooves. In order to machine the chip channel, the Oilless Bushings must be cut in half by wire cutting.
